Persistent label
A label that stays visible at all times, next to a field or on a chart, instead of appearing only on focus, hover or when a field is empty.
Say it to an AI
Create-account card for a notes app: email, password, confirm password. Every input gets a persistent label above it, no placeholder-only input. For the error state, show a red border plus an inline validation message under the field that says exactly what's wrong, e.g. "Must be at least 8 characters".
How an expert would brief the stronger version of “Signup form”.
See it
Try it as a puzzle →Create-account card for a note-taking app, after the user typed a too-short password.
Why: A shows "Email" and "Password" above the inputs; B has no labels, so once typed in, you can't tell what each box is.
More ways experts use it
Weekly pipeline digest email with a bar chart of open deals by stage. Because the chart is a static export, use a persistent label with the count on every bar instead of relying on a tooltip; drop any 'hover to see values' hint and keep three light tick labels at 0, 50 and 100.
