Takeaway title

A chart title that states the insight instead of only naming the metric.

Say it to an AI

Weekly active users by platform over six months. Use a takeaway title ("Web passed Android in July"), direct labeling at the end of each line instead of a legend, and a highlight color on Web only, with iOS and Android in grey. Keep the data-ink ratio high: three faint gridlines, no point markers.

How an expert would brief the stronger version of “Active users chart”.

Study A · the stronger one
Study B · the weaker one

Why: A's title says 'Web passed Android in July'; B's just says what is being measured.

More ways experts use it

  • Bar chart of monthly churn, April to September 2026. Give it a takeaway title that states the finding, 'Churn halved after the July price change', and move the metric, unit and period into a chart subtitle. Zero-based axis with three tick labels; no legend needed for one series.

  • Average order value card: current value, absolute and relative change versus September 2025, two small bars, and a metric definition in the footer. The takeaway title must keep consistency (title matches data): round +17.9% to 'up 18%', exactly as the delta on the card rounds.
