Tooltip

A small popup that appears on hover, focus or tap to briefly explain one element or reveal hidden information.

Say it to an AI

Up next queue with fixed-height rows: cover art, then the track title as primary text and performers as secondary text, duration right-aligned. Long titles truncate to one line with an ellipsis and show the full title in a tooltip on hover, so row heights never change.

How an expert would brief the stronger version of “Playlist queue”.

'Up next' queue in a classical music streaming app.

Study A · the weaker one
Study B · the stronger one

Why: Hovering the Symphony No. 9 row in B reveals its full title in a dark pop-up label, so truncation doesn't hide anything.

More ways experts use it

  • Weekly pipeline digest email with a bar chart of open deals by stage. Because the chart is a static export, use a persistent label with the count on every bar instead of relying on a tooltip; drop any 'hover to see values' hint and keep three light tick labels at 0, 50 and 100.
