Focal point

The one element a design is built to be seen first, made dominant through size, weight, color or position.

Say it to an AI

Today summary card with revenue as the single focal point: a large hero metric with its delta and a sparkline underneath. Orders, conversion and average order value go in one quieter row below at a much smaller size, so the visual hierarchy is revenue first, everything else supporting.

Study A · the stronger one
Study B · the weaker one

Why: A's focal point is the 40px $4,820 revenue figure with its sparkline; B has no focal point because all four tiles look the same.

  • Banking home on flat, neutral surfaces: light grey page, white action buttons and white transaction list. Spend one gradient on the balance card as the focal point, using analogous colors like indigo into violet so it never goes muddy.
