Signal-to-noise ratio

How much of what's presented is useful information compared with how much is filler or irrelevant detail; higher is clearer.

Say it to an AI

Three-up product grid with at most one badge per card, and only when it's worth acting on: a red discount badge for sale items, a quiet white 'New' badge for new arrivals, nothing otherwise. Keep the signal-to-noise ratio high so the product image and price stay the focus.

How an expert would brief the stronger version of “Product grid”.

Sneaker category page in an online shoe store.

Study A · the weaker one
Study B · the stronger one

Why: B's single red '−30%' is pure signal; in A the same badge shares the corner with a redundant 'Sale' and sits above a second red 'Only 2 left', so it no longer stands alone.
